It blooms between November and December producing yellow flowers.[2] The evergreen adult leaves have a disjunct arrangement.[3] E. flavida was first formally described by the botanists Ian Brooker and Stephen Hopper in 1991 in the work A taxonomic revision of Eucalyptus wandoo, E. redunca and allied species (Eucalyptus series Levispermae Maiden - Myrtaceae) in Western Australia published in the journal Nuytsia. The only synonym is Eucalyptus redunca var. oxymitra as described by Joseph Maiden in 1918 in the work A Critical Revision of the Genus Eucalyptus.[4] The type specimen was collected by R. Helms from around Broad Arrow.[3]The species is found among granite breakaways in the north and east of Kalgoorlie in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia where it grows in red loamy soils with quartz or calcrete.[2] See also{{Portal|Trees}}
