BackgroundIn 1969, the rock band Wild Honey, featuring Jean and June Millington with Alice de Buhr were spotted by producer Richard Perry's secretary. Perry arranged a trial session at Wally Heider Studios and concluded "This is a band that needs to be recorded." The group added keyboardist and singer Nickey Barclay and began recording in early 1970, renaming themselves Fanny.[1] The material included a cover of Cream's single, "Badge".[2] The group were disappointed by Perry's production, feeling it didn't "bring out the best" in the group or reflect their live performances, though this would improve on later albums.[1] Release and receptionThe album was released in December 1970.[2] Robert Christgau gave the album an average review, though he said the cover of "Badge" was "a cute idea".[3] A Canadian pressing of the album used the wrong master tapes, and consequently had a different track listing, including a cover of Maxine Brown's "One Step at A Time".[4] Real Gone Music re-released the album on CD in 2013, with bonus tracks.[2] AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote a favourable review, again singling out the cover of "Badge", and comparing the group's sound and arrangements to Badfinger.[5] Track listing{{track listing|headline=Side one |title1=Come and Hold Me |writer1=June Millington, Jean Millington |length1=2:46 |title2=I Just Realized |writer2=Nickey Barclay, June Millington |length2=4:00 |title3=Candlelighter Man |writer3=Millington, Millington |length3=3:35 |title4=Conversation with a Cop |writer4=Barclay |length4=3:09 |title5=Badge |writer5=Eric Clapton, George Harrison |length5=3:01 }}{{track listing |headline=Side two |title6=Changing Horses |writer6=Barclay |length6=3:48 |title7=Bitter Wine |writer7=Barclay |length7=3:17 |title8=Take a Message to the Captain |writer8=Barclay |length8=3:31 |title9=It Takes a Lot of Good Lovin' |writer9=Alvertis Isbell, Booker T Jones |length9=4:25 |title10=Shade Me |writer10=Barclay |length10=4:39 |title11=Seven Roads |writer11=Millington, Millington, Alice de Buhr |length11=4:19}} Personnel
