It was built in 1880 for Thomas E. Farrell, a surveyor for the St. Joseph and Denver Railroad Company and a co-founder of the city of Hastings.[2] Farrell also served on Hastings' city council in 1874, 1875, and 1887.[2] The second floor houses the county courthouse until a courthouse was completed in 1890.[2] The building, designed by architect Charles Rittenhouse, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 1, 1979.[1] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{commons category|Farrell Block (Hastings, Nebraska)}}{{National Register of Historic Places}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Farrell Block}}{{Nebraska-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=79001430}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Farrell Block |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=March 12, 2019}} With {{NRHP url|id=79001430|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}} 2 : National Register of Historic Places in Adams County, Nebraska|Buildings and structures completed in 1880 |
