She competes in the T11 visual impairment class, in which she won a silver medal in the long jump at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. CareerSince she was a child, Fatimata Diasso has had a visual impairment.[1] She competes in the long jump, alongside a guide.[1] Her disability class is T11, which means she has little to no visual ability.[2] Fatima Diasso had been due to compete at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, England, but could not due to an injury.[3] Diasso began training in France in 2014, joining the AJBO athletics club.[2] Diasso competed for the Ivory Coast at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Taking part in the women's T11 long jump, she finished second with a jump of {{convert|4.79|m|ft}} behind Brazil's Silvania de Oliveira.[4] She also ran in the T11 100 metres and 200 metres, but failed to reach the podium in each case.[5] There was not a great deal of response in the Ivory Coast to Diasso's medal initially, but there was a call in the media for her to receive a similar award from the government as Olympic medallist Ruth Gbagbi.[2] Diasso was subsequently awarded 40 million West African CFA franc and a villa for winning the silver medal.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite web|last1=Feauxzar|first1=Papatia|title=Meet The Athletes That Are Making Us Proud At The Rio Paralympic Games|url=http://mvslim.com/meet-muslim-athletes-making-us-proud-rio-paralympic-games/|publisher=Mvslim.com|accessdate=5 November 2017|date=16 September 2016}} 4. ^{{cite news|title=Brazil takes gold and bronze in women's long jump|url=http://agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br/rio-2016/noticia/2016-09/brasil-leva-ouro-e-bronze-no-salto-em-distancia-feminino|accessdate=5 November 2017|work=Agencia Brasil|date=16 September 2016}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=L'homme de Rio : Fatimata Diasso, Ivoirienne, médaille d’argent au saut en longueur non voyant|url=http://www.vivrefm.com/infos/lire/3179/l-homme-de-rio-fatimata-diasso-ivoirienne-medaille-d-argent-au-saut-en-longueur-non-voyant|accessdate=5 November 2017|work=Vivre FM|date=17 September 2016}} 6 : Living people|Paralympic athletes of Ivory Coast|Paralympic silver medalists for Ivory Coast|Female long jumpers|Athletes (track and field) at the 2016 Summer Paralympics|Year of birth missing (living people) |
