Filly Funtasia is a Cantonese computer-animated children's television series created by Jacob and Henrik Anderson for Dracco. The series is based on the Filly franchise,[1] and is produced by Dracco Brands and Guangzhou Huamai Animation Studios.

The series follows Rose and her friends as they attend a magical academy in the royal kingdom of Funtasia. It premiered on March 11, 2019 on Frisbee in Italy.[2]

Plot

Filly Funtasia is about the adventures of Rose, as she attends a magical academy in the royal kingdom of Funtasia, with her best friends – Cedric, Isabella, Lynn, and Willow. The Fillys go to school and study their crystal powers, all while Wranglum, the Wizard of the Dark Mirror, along with his minion Battiwigs, try to steal all of the magic in the kingdom.

Production

Filly Funtasia was created by Danish brothers, Jacob and Henrik Anderson, who also founded the Filly toy line around 2006. In Summer 2012, the development of the series began, and Tine S. Norbøll, the developer of the franchise, wrote the story bible for series. She was also an art director for the show.[4] BRB Internacional and their animation studio Studio 21 originally did the animation work, with some outsourcing from Black Dragon in China. In early 2015, Tine quit working with Dracco, and later in the year BRB and Screen 21 stopped working on the show, and later disassociated with it the next year. B-Water Animation Studios and Guangzhou Huamai Animation Studios joined the production of the series much later, and worked to complete what the previous studios had left behind.

Filly Funtasia has went through development hell five years prior to its release, and was delayed four times before it finally premiered in Italy. Some of the reasons why likely include Dracco Netherlands initiating legal action against Simba in Hong Kong on February 28, 2014, and BRB suddenly ceasing production of the series on their part, and later declaring bankruptcy.

Two specials of the show were announced April 4, 2016 at the MIPTV Media Market titled "Filly Stars" and "Filly Butterfly". Originally produced by BRB's 3D movie division, Apolo Films, no news has surfaced about the progress or whether or not the specials have been cancelled as of late.{{clr}}
