A flying duck race (Indonesian: Pacu Itiak) is a tradition in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra.[1] Young female ducks (4–6 months old) that cannot fully fly are used. Races cover distances ranging from 600 meters to 2,000 meters.[1] Races are held weekly.[2] The races are held in different areas with rice fields and streets used as venues.[1] The ducks are numbered on their bills. The races are accompanied with music and parade activities.[1] The winning duck must fly the race course and across the finish line.[1]
