The Four Perils ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|四凶}}}}|s={{lang|zh|{{linktext|四凶}}}}|p=Sì Xiōng}}) are four malevolent beings that existed in Chinese mythology, and the antagonistic counterparts of the Four Benevolent Animals. Book of DocumentsIn the Book of Documents, they are defined as the "Four Evildoers" ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|四罪}}}}|s={{lang|zh|{{linktext|四罪}}}}|p=Sì Zuì}})[1]: - Gonggong ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|共工}}}}|p=Gònggōng|l=all-powerful}}), the disastrous god;
- Huandou ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|驩兜}}}}|p=Huāndōu|l=happy armor}}), a chimeric minister from the south who conspired with Gonggong against Emperor Yao [2]
- Gun ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|鲧}}}}|p=Gǔn|l=emperor's father}}), father of Yu the Great whose poorly-built dam released a destructive flood;
- Sanmiao ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|三苗}}}}|p=Sān Miáo|l=Three Miao}}), the tribes that attacked Yao the Great's tribe.
Zuo Zhuan and ShanhaijingIn the Zuo Zhuan and the Shanhaijing, they are defined as: - the Hundun ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|混沌}}}}|p=Hùndùn|l=chaotic torrent}}), a yellow winged creature of chaos with six legs and no face;
- the Qiongqi ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|窮奇}}}}|p=Qióngqí|l=poor and strange}}), a monstrous creature that eats people;
- the Taowu ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|檮杌}}}}|p=Táowù|l=stupid stump}}), a reckless, stubborn creature;
- the Taotie ({{zh|t={{lang|zh|{{linktext|饕餮}}}}|p=Tāotiè|l=greedy glutton}}), a gluttonous beast.
