It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.[1] It was deemed to be "an excellent example of Renaissance-influenced turn-of-the-century school architecture in Kansas."[3] The school was designed by local architect A.W. Snodgrass after the previous, 1880-built school was destroyed by a fire caused by a lightning strike on August 20, 1902.[2] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{Kansas-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=72000515}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Frankfort School|publisher=National Park Service|author=Richard D.
