Krestin is a Dutch full professor of radiology and chairman of he Department of Radiology at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Early life and careerGabriel Krestin was born in Romania and by the age of 19 immigrated to Germany. There, in 1981 he graduated from University of Cologne and then seven years later completed residency at the same place. In 1990 he got his PhD from University of Cologne and later on became staff radiologist at the University Hospital of Zürich in Switzerland. Between 1995 and 1997 he was a chairman at the same institution and from 1998 to 2009 was a visiting professor at Stanford University School of Medicine.[1] In a 2016 press conference with ECR he said that To date, there is too little coordination between the medical specialties responsible for ordering and performing these tests, nor is there enough consideration as to the optimal order of tests. What is required is a new concept of integrated diagnostics: the convergence of imaging, pathology and laboratory tests with advanced information technology.[2] ResearchIn 2011 Gabriel along with Yi-Xiang J. Wang and Shahid M. Hussain have published a study regarding single crystalized iron oxide and gadoteric acid.[3] Memberships and honoursKrestin is a member of many national and international organizations including European Society of Radiology and Radiological Society of North America. Since 2010 to 2013 he was member of the RSNA International Advisory Committee and was a Couch-Kerley Traveling Professor to the Royal College of Radiologists in the United Kingdom.[1] In February 2014 he became an honorary member of Société Française de Radiologie[4] Gabriel Krestin is a recipient of Albers Schonberg and Schinz Medals and is a fellow of both American College of Radiology and Royal College of Radiologists.[1] In 2017 Professor Krestin was awarded with Leopold Casper Medal.[5] BeliefsGabriel Krestin believes that structured reporting and computer-assisted quantification are essential to treat various diagnosis. In a 2014 interview with European Hospital regarding if there is still room for art in radiology, he answered it as "Good question" and added that "a patient, [is] like someone taking a car to the garage, would like to know exactly what he would get for what he pays.
