Early lifeSawant was born and raised in Pune. Her mother died when she was nine years old and she was raised by her grandmother. Her father is a police officer. She was asked to leave the house by her father at age 18.[7] ActivismGauri founded the Sakshi Char Chowhi Trust in 2000.
