The Genesis G80 ({{lang-ko|제네시스 G80}}) is an executive[3] sedan manufactured by the Korean luxury automaker Genesis, a subsidiary of Hyundai. It was originally branded as the second-generation Hyundai Genesis, but it was rebranded as the G80 after the establishment of Genesis Motors.[4]

Changes to the Genesis G80 included new bumpers, new internals for the headlights, and a revised grille.

The vehicle was unveiled at the 2016 North American International Auto Show,[5] followed by the 2016 Busan Motor Show.[6]

Korean models went on sale in July 2016.[7] Early models included 3.3, 3.3 HTRAC, 3.8.

US models went on sale in September 2016 as 2017 model year vehicle. Early models include 3.8, 3.8 HTRAC, 5.0.[8][9][10]

The Genesis G80 was launched to the Russian market in 2017 with a 2.0-litre Theta turbocharged engine producing 245 hp (180 kW), eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.[11]

G80 Sport (2017–present)

This version of the Genesis G80 is mated with a twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 engine producing {{Convert|365|hp|0|abbr=on}}, sportier bumpers/accents, quad-exhaust tips, and a mesh grille.

The vehicle was unveiled at the 2016 Busan Motor Show,[12][13] followed by the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show,[14] and the 2017 North American International Auto Show.[15]

US models went on sale as 2018 model year vehicles.

Transmissions

All models include eight-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC. The G80 is available as a rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (HTRAC).

Production

The Genesis G80 was manufactured in Ulsan, Korea.

In August 2016, 1,497 units of G80 sedan were sold by Hyundai Motor America.[16]

As of 1 February 2017, 1,350 units of G80 sedan were sold by Hyundai Motor America.[17]

Marketing

During 2017 NFL Pro Bowl, Genesis G80 sedans were awarded to Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players.[18]

Awards

The 2018 Genesis G80 has been nominated as a finalist for the IDEA (International Design Excellence Award).[19]
