It has a single thin leaf fused to the flowering stem and up to thirty small, greenish red to reddish, self-pollinating flowers with a dark purplish red labellum. DescriptionGenoplesium pedersonii is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous, herb with an underground tuber and a single thin leaf {{convert|80-160|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and fused to the flowering stem with the free part {{convert|12-19|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long. Between five and thirty flowers are well spaced along a flowering stem {{convert|100-250|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} tall and taller than the leaf. The flowers lean downwards and are greenish red to reddish, about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. The flowers are inverted so that the labellum is above the column rather than below it. The dorsal sepal is broadly egg-shaped, about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and wide and concave. The lateral sepals are lance-shaped, about {{convert|2.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and spread widely apart. The petals are egg-shaped, about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. The labellum is dark purplish red, egg-shaped with the narrower end towards the base, about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long, {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and turns upwards near its middle. There is a dark purplish black callus in the centre of the labellum and covering about two-thirds of its surface. Flowering occurs from December to April.[2][3]Taxonomy and namingGenoplesium pedersonii was first formally described in 1991 by David Jones and the description was published in Australian Orchid Research.[4] In 2002, David Jones and Mark Clements changed the name to Corunastylis pedersonii.[5] The specific epithet (pedersonii) honours Mr Ted Pederson who discovered this and several other orchid species.[3]Distribution and habitatGenoplesium pedersonii grows with sedges and mosses in moist areas on rock ledges on the Blackdown Tableland.[3]There are unconfirmed records of this species from the Pilliga forest in New South Wales.[6] References1. ^{{WCSP | 89181 | Genoplesium pedersonii}} 2. ^{{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=1877069124|pages =186–187}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite journal|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=New taxa of Australian Orchidaceae|journal=Australian Orchid Research|date=1991|volume=2|page=69}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|title=Genoplesium pedersonii|url= https://id.biodiversity.org.au/instance/apni/551696|publisher=APNI|accessdate=6 February 2018}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Corunastylis pedersonii|url= https://id.biodiversity.org.au/instance/apni/6274516|publisher=APNI|accessdate=6 February 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=Genoplesium pedersonii|url=http://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=sp&name=Genoplesium~pedersonii|publisher=Royal Botanic Garden Sydney|accessdate=6 February 2018}} External links
