When he was chosen to tour New Zealand in 1967 The Canberra Times said he was "destined to become a permanent member of the Australian side – if he retains his promise".[4] He played as the professional for East Lancashire in the Lancashire League in 1967 and was one of the league's leading players, scoring 695 runs at an average of 48.98 and taking 40 wickets at 15.97.[5] He was considered a contender for the 1968 tour of England, but was not selected.[6] See also
