Glenn Eric "Hurricane" Schwartz (born c. 1952) is a meteorologist at WCAU in Philadelphia. He currently appears on the 11 am, 4 pm, and 6 pm newscasts. CareerSchwartz was born in Philadelphia and graduated Penn State in 1972. Shortly after graduating, he began his career at nearby AccuWeather in State College, Pennsylvania. He then gained experience with hurricanes at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, where he worked from 1974 to 1977. Schwartz first appeared on television at WAGA in Atlanta from 1979 to 1983. In 1985, he joined The Weather Channel as a hurricane specialist and became one of the networks's first "hurricane specialists." The next year, Schwartz left The Weather Channel for WNYW in New York. It was there that a colleague gave him the nickname "Hurricane" after seeing a video of him being blown around in one. Schwartz would remain at WNYW until 1990. Over the next few years he worked at WPBF in West Palm Beach, WINK in Fort Myers, and WRAL in Raleigh.[1] In October 1995, Schwartz returned to his native Philadelphia and became a meteorologist at WCAU, where he has remained since. He is known for wearing a bow tie during broadcasts; according to Schwartz he is required to do so in his contract.[2] Schwartz became chief meteorologist in 2002, a title which he lost in 2017 to Tammie Souza.
