It is native to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.[1] It was first formally described by Otto Warburg, a German-Jewish botanist, using the basionym Beccariodendron grandiflorum.[2] Bioactive molecules extracted from its bark, leaves and flowers have been reported to have antibacterial activity against both Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria.[3] DescriptionIt is a tree with smooth, gray branches. It has smooth, oblong leaves, that are pointed at the tip, 20-25 by 8-9 centimeters. Its 3 outer petals are 13 centimeters long and 13 millimeters wide at their base.
