It is native to Borneo, the Malay Peninsula, the Nicobar Islands, Sumatra and Thailand.[1] Bioactive molecules extracted from its tissues have been reported to have antibacterial activity in tests with Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.[2] DescriptionIt is a tree reaching 15 to 20 feet in height. Its bark is finely wrinkled and light colored with parts covered in greenish-brown hair. It has oblong leaves that come to a point at their tip. The underside of the leaves are pale. It has green, solitary flowers. It has hairy sepals that are oval and come to a point at their tip. Its outer petals have small dark hairs and are 1 to 1.25 inches long. Its inner leaves have light colored hair and are 0.3 to 0.4 inches long. It has numerous stamens.
