It is native to Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Thailand.[1] George King, who first formally described the species, named it after the English botanist Henry Nicholas Ridley who collected the specimen King examined. DescriptionIt is a tree reaching 23 meters in height.[2] Its leaves are elliptical, 8 by 4.5 inches, and come to a point at their tip. The upper surface of the leaves is dull and smooth while the lower surface is shiny. Its 3 sepals are 6 inches long, leathery and covered in fine hair. Its 6 leathery petals are arranged in two rows of 3. The outer petals are oblong, 1.65 by 2 inches. The inner petals are slightly longer than 6 inches.
