It was built and established on top of a small hill during the reign of the Sultan of Bengal, Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah in 1476 and is named after Afghan chief and Mughal opponent Khwaja Usman.[1] HistoryAccording to local villagers, when the mosque was being constructed, the area was covered in dense forest and inhabited by tigers. To this day, three marks of a tiger's paw remains on the eastern pillar inside the mosque. During the reign of Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah, Haji Amir's grandson and the local minister (possibly faujdar), Majlis Alam, built the mosque in 1476.[2] In 1593, an Afghan chief by the name of Khwaja Usman took shelter in this mosque after the Afghan rebellion against the Subahdar of Mughal Bengal, Man Singh I.[3] In the late 1930s, a scholar by the name of Azam Shah is said to have settled near the mosque. In 1940, the original dome fell apart and Azam Shah raised money for the building of a new dome in which he successfully built alongside Ismail Mistri of Baniachong. In 1960, the mosque was again refurbished. After the depart of Azam Shah, it fell apart again and was held with branches and seedlings.[4] ArchitectureThe dome is white-tiled and 18 feet tall. There are 3 large doors as well as 6 smaller doors. On the eastern pillar of the interior of the building, there is a mark of a tiger's paw. Near the ceiling, there is an Arabic inscription with a flowery design. There is a rock inscription on the western wall which is protected by an iron cage to avoid thieves. The brick masonry of the walls is very thick.[5] References1. ^{{cite news|url=https://thedhakatimes.com/72234/finding-historic-mosque-in-moulvibazar/|title=মৌলভীবাজারের ঐতিহাসিক গয়ঘর খোজার মসজিদ|location=Moulvibazar|publisher=The Dhaka Times|date=15 June 2016|language=bn|accessdate=23 February 2019}} {{Mosques in Bangladesh}}{{Bangladesh topics}}2. ^{{cite web|url= http://www.dailyinqilab.com/details/19365/%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%82%E0%A6%B2%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A6%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%B6%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%B0-%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%9F%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%95%E0%A6%9F%E0%A6%BF-%E0%A6%AA%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B0%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%9A%E0%A7%80%E0%A6%A8-%E0%A6%AE%E0%A6%B8%E0%A6%9C%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%A6-|title=বাংলাদেশের কয়েকটি প্রাচীন মসজিদ|publisher=Inqilab Enterprise & Publications Ltd|date=25 August 2015|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20150923212401/http://www.dailyinqilab.com/details/19365/%E0%A6%AC%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%82%E0%A6%B2%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%A6%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%B6%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%B0-%E0%A6%95%E0%A7%9F%E0%A7%87%E0%A6%95%E0%A6%9F%E0%A6%BF-%E0%A6%AA%E0%A7%8D%E0%A6%B0%E0%A6%BE%E0%A6%9A%E0%A7%80%E0%A6%A8-%E0%A6%AE%E0%A6%B8%E0%A6%9C%E0%A6%BF%E0%A6%A6-|archive-date=23 September 2015|dead-url=yes}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Khwaja Usman|url=http://en.banglapedia.org/index.php?title=Khwaja_Usman|publisher=Banglapedia|accessdate=23 September 2018|df=dmy-all}} 4. ^{{cite news|url= http://beanibazarbarta24.com/2018/12/36180/|title=মৌলভীবাজারের ঐতিহাসিক গয়ঘর খোজার মসজিদ|location=Moulvibazar|publisher=Beanibazar Barta 24|date=3 December 2018|language=bn|accessdate=23 February 2019}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Hussain|first=Akmal|url=https://www.prothomalo.com/bangladesh/article/398893|title=গয়ঘর খোজার মসজিদ|location=Moulvibazar|publisher=Prothom Alo|date=16 December 2014|language=bn|accessdate=23 February 2019}} 5 : Monuments and memorials in Bangladesh|Sylhet|Buildings and structures in Sylhet Division|Islam in Bangladesh|Architecture of Bangladesh |
