It has simple, flat, linear, undissected leaves with a blade that is {{convert|15|to|35|mm|in|0}} long and {{convert|0.5|to|1.5|mm|in|2|abbr=on}} wide. It blooms from July to September and produces an axillary raceme irregular inflorescence with red or brown flowers and red styles. Later it forms simple hairy ellipsoidal fruit that is {{convert|6|to|10|mm|in|1|abbr=on}} long. See also
