He is named after former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who is a part-owner of the horse.[1] He raced several times in the United Kingdom, winning the Burradon Stakes, before taking part in the 2018 Belmont Stakes and finishing second. At the Belmont, he had odds of 69:1 to win, which is coincidentally Gronkowski’s favorite number[2]. He was originally going to race in the 2018 Kentucky Derby, but pulled out due to a fever.[3] As a four-year-old, he finished runner-up in the 2019 Dubai World Cup.
