}}Guangzong Temple ({{zh|s=广宗寺|t=廣宗寺|p=Guǎngzōng Sì}}), more commonly known as the Tongwadian ({{zh|s=铜瓦殿|t=銅瓦殿|p=Tóngwǎdiàn|labels=no}}), is a Buddhist temple located on Mount Wutai, in Taihuai Town of Wutai County, Shanxi, China.[1][2]

History

According to Records of Qingliang Mountain ({{zh|s=清涼山志|l=|labels=no}}), the temple was first construction by Zhengde Emperor in 1507 under the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) and rebuilt in the following Qing dynasty (1644–1911).[1][2]

Guangzong Temple has been inscribed as a National Key Buddhist Temple in Han Chinese Area in 1983.[1][2]

Architecture

Guangzong Temple occupies a total area {{convert|2900|m2|adj=on}} with 28 rooms and halls.[1]

Main Hall

The Main Hall, also known as "Grand Buddha Hall", is divided into upper and lower storeys with double-eaves gable and hip roofs.[1][2]

The upper storey enshrining the Three Saints of Hua-yan ({{zh|s=华严三圣|p=|labels=no}}). In the middle is Sakyamuni, statues of Manjushri and Samantabhadra stand on the left and right sides of Sakyamuni's statue. The statues of Eighteen Arhats stand on both sides.[1][2]

And the lower storey enshrining the Three Sages of the West ({{zh|s=西方三圣|p=|labels=no}}), namely Guanyin, Amitabha and Mahasthamaprapta.[1][2]

Stupa of Master Fazun

After the Parinirvana of Master Fazun ({{zh|s=法尊|l=|labels=no}}), monks of Guangzong Temple elected a stupa for him. The stupa is {{convert|6|m|adj=on}} high.[1][2]
