It is {{convert|88|km|mi}} long and drains an area of {{convert|1249|km2|sqmi}}. Guanlan River rises in Da'naoke Hill ({{zh|c=大脑壳山|p=|labels=no}}), north of Shenzhen, and flows generally north through Qinghu Village ({{zh|c=清湖村|p=|labels=no}}) and Guanlan Subdistrict, to Dongguan, then flows north to join Shima River in Yantian Stream ({{zh|c=雁田水|p=|labels=no}}), where it feeds into Dong River, about {{convert|1|km2|mi2}} near Qiaotou Town ({{zh|c=桥头镇|p=|labels=no}}).[1] TributariesThe river's has five major tributaries, the Dalang Stream ({{zh|c=大浪河|p=|labels=no}}), Minzhi Stream ({{zh|c=民治河|p=|labels=no}}), Zhangkengjing Stream ({{zh|c=樟坑径河|p=|labels=no}}), Niuhu Stream ({{zh|c=牛湖水|p=|labels=no}}), and Baihua Stream ({{zh|c=白花河|p=|labels=no}}).
