It is endemic to Australia.[1] The annual herb covered with papillose typically grows to a height of {{convert|20|cm|in|0}}. It has grey-green to yellow-green leaves that are spathulate to ovate in shape. Leaves are up to {{convert|30|mm|in|2|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|11|mm|in|2|abbr=on}}. It blooms between August and October producing solitary white or yellow flowers.[1] The plant is found long ephemeral creek beds, swales and in depressions on gibber flats in saline areas. It is distributed through central parts of South Australia and also in the southern portion of the Northern Territory and far eastern parts of New South Wales and Queensland where it grows in loam or clay soils[1] The species was first formally described as Aizoon zygophylloides by the botanist Ferdinand von Mueller in 1871 in his work Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae.
