It usually has two leaves at its base and up to fifteen tiny whitish flowers. DescriptionHabenaria exilis is a tuberous, perennial herb usually with two upright, dark green leaves, {{convert|20-60|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|3-5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. Between seven and fifteen whitish flowers {{convert|8-9.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|5-6|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} wide are well-spaced along a flowering stem {{convert|200-500|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} tall. The dorsal sepal and petals overlap at their bases and form a hood over the column. The dorsal sepal is about {{convert|3|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|2|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. The lateral sepals are about {{convert|4|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long, {{convert|2|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and spread nearly horizontally away from each other. The petals are about {{convert|2|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. The labellum is about {{convert|3|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|6|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and has three lobes. The side lobes are thread-like, about {{convert|4.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and arranged at about 90° to the middle lobe which is shorter and turns downwards. The labellum spur is white and green, about {{convert|5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and parallel to the ovary. Flowering occurs between January and April.[2]Taxonomy and namingHabenaria exilis was first formally described in 1998 by David Jones from a specimen collected near Rossville by Lewis Roberts in 1993 and the description was published in The Orchadian.[3] The specific epithet (exilis) is a Latin word meaning "thin", "slender", "meager" or "poor ".[4]Distribution and habitatThe wispy rein orchid has a narrow distribution near Rossville where it grows with grasses in sparse woodland which is partly flooded in summer.[2] References1. ^{{WCSP | 94609 | Habenaria exilis }} {{Taxonbar|from= Q15479034}}2. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=1877069124|pages =341–342}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=Habenaria exilis|url= https://id.biodiversity.org.au/instance/apni/581270|publisher=APNI|accessdate=22 August 2018}} 4. ^{{cite book|last1=Brown|first1=Roland Wilbur|title=The Composition of Scientific Words|date=1956|publisher=Smithsonian Institution Press|location=Washington, D.C.|page=624}} 5 : Orchids of Queensland|Endemic orchids of Australia|Plants described in 1998|Orchideae genera|Habenaria |
