It up to eight leaves scattered along the stem and up to thirty smelly green and white flowers. DescriptionHabenaria hymenophylla is a tuberous, perennial herb with between six and eight leaves. The leaves are {{convert|30-60|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|30-35|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} wide. Between twenty and thirty green and white flowers, {{convert|15-18|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|10-13|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide are borne on a flowering stem {{convert|250-400|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} tall. The flowers have an unpleasant smell, especially in the late afternoon. The dorsal sepal is about {{convert|5|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long and wide and forms a hood over the column. The lateral sepals are a similar size to the dorsal sepal and spread apart from each other. The petals are divided into two lobes about {{convert|1.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide, one about {{convert|6|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and the other about {{convert|3|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long. The labellum has three thread-like lobes {{convert|6-7|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long. The nectary spur is {{convert|11-13|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long and curved. Flowering occurs from October to April.[2][3]Taxonomy and namingHabenaria hymenophylla was first formally described in 1911 by Rudolf Schlechter and the description was published in Repertorium specierum novarum regni vegetabilis.[1][4] The specific epithet (hymenophylla) is derived from the Ancient Greek words hymenos meaning "membrane"[5]{{rp|518}} and phyllon meaning "leaf".[5]{{rp|466}} Distribution and habitatThe coastal rein is found in northern parts of the Northern Territory where it is found near Darwin, in Arnhem Land and on Melville Island. It also occurs in disjunct populations in Queensland, including on the Cape York Peninsula and between Ingham and Rockhampton. It grows in rainforest, often near the coast and in woodland.[2][3][6] References1. ^1 {{WCSP | 94832 | Habenaria hymenophylla }} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15480428}}2. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=978-1877069123|pages =342–343}} 3. ^1 {{cite web |title=Habenaria hymenophylla |url=http://keys.trin.org.au/key-server/data/08090a09-0d0e-410b-860c-020705070e0e/media/Html/Habenaria_hymenophylla.htm |publisher=Trin keys: Australian Tropical Rainforest Orchids |accessdate=26 August 2018}} 4. ^{{cite journal |last1=Schlechter |first1=Rudolf |title=Orchidaceae novae et criticae |journal=Repertorium Specierum Novarum Regni Vegetabilis |date=1911 |volume=9 |pages=212–213 |url= https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/7029#page/219/mode/1up |accessdate=26 August 2018}} 5. ^1 {{cite book|last1=Brown|first1=Roland Wilbur|title=The Composition of Scientific Words|date=1956|publisher=Smithsonian Institution Press|location=Washington, D.C.}} 6. ^{{cite web |title=Habenaria hymenophylla |url=http://eflora.nt.gov.au/factsheet?id=4082 |publisher=Northern Territory Flora Online |accessdate=26 August 2018}} 6 : Orchids of the Northern Territory|Orchids of New Guinea|Endemic orchids of Australia|Plants described in 1911|Orchideae genera|Habenaria |
