Henri Pézerat, born April 12, 1928 in Chalon-sur-Saône and died February 16, 2009 in Paris 13th, is a French researcher, graduate of the School of Chemistry of Lyon, director of research at the French National Center for Scientific Research, toxicologist, launcher of alert.

Biography

At the end of 1973, in his Jussieu chemistry laboratory, he identified asbestos, in the white dust falling from the ceiling and polluting the measurements. He examines the literature on this silicate and discovers its carcinogenic character. He reported the fact to an inter-union collective that had been created for safety following the death of a laboratory technician who had been burned alive in a Jussieu laboratory. He helped ban asbestos in France in 1997, thanks to his animation of the anti-asbestos Committee Jussieu. He is also one of the founders of the ALERT Association. In 1978, he supports the workers of the Amisol factory in Clermont-Ferrand.

The association Ban Asbestos France, was born in 1995 from the meeting in 1977 between Henri Pézerat, Annie Thebaud-Mony (director of research at INSERM, specialist in occupational health), author of the book Work can seriously harm your health and Patrick Herman (asbestos whistleblower). She participated actively in 1996 in the creation of ANDEVA (National Association for the Defense of Victims of Asbestos). Despite the ban on this material, millions of tons of asbestos are still in place.

After his retirement, Henri Pézerat is still close to patients and asbestos victims and broadens his scope to other carcinogenic pollutants, from his apartment Fontenay-sous-Bois.

In 1999, he launched the Vincennes Pediatric Cancers Case, alerting the Director General of Health with a letter describing a spatio-temporal aggregate (cluster) of childhood cancers at the Franklin Roosevelt kindergarten, built on the old industrial wasteland left by the Kodak factories. Supporting the parents of the Collectif Vigilance-Franklin, whose association, after having obtained an epidemiological study and a follow-up of the polluted site, still asks for the depollution, he represents the victims on the Scientific Committee, then disagrees with the committee, he resigns.

In 2000, he warned against the toxicity of heavy fuel escaping from the ship, the Erika[1].

His latest fights will involve the asbestos removal of the aircraft carrier Clemenceau[2] and the determination of the deleterious role of aluminum in the genesis of Alzheimer's diseas.

Henri Pézerat believed in the paramount importance of toxicology in occupational medicine, as a forerunner of the toxicology of the environment. He believed that the workers were the sentinels of the toxicological risk, both professional and environmental, as the first, and often the most affected by pollutants, the same in both cases.

His fight is continued by the Association Henri Pézerat Health-Work-Environment.
