It took three days to reach him because of the snow. During the annual festival of Ferragosto, the town organizes a hike up to the church, where they roast a pig. It is considered the most important and sacred of the churches in Palena. {{Empty section|date=May 2016}} Architecture{{Empty section|date=May 2016}}References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.parcomajella.it/en/uomo-e-territorio/eremi-e-luoghi-di-culto-rupestri/madonna-dellaltare/ |title=Madonna dell'Altare |publisher=Majella National Park |access-date=19 May 2016}}
