HistoryMohammed Karoub had immigrated to the United States in around 1912 from Damascus. He moved to the Detroit Metro area to work in the Highland Park Ford Plant, like many other Muslims who immigrated from places like Europe, the Ottoman Empire, and Syria. He then became a real estate developer and became prosperous. As a result of Highland Park's growing Muslim population, which was an estimated 16,000 at the time, he used his money to purchase land to build a mosque. The mosque, built near the Highland Park Ford Plant, served many of the Muslims working at the plant. Karoub employed architect Theodore Degenhardt to design the mosque.[1][3] The mosque opened on June 21, 1921, although it had a short lifespan. By 1922, the number of attendees at the mosque had declined. Due to the issues, Karoub then tried to sell the mosque, which he did in 1927.[1][4] The land is currently being used by the John E. Green Company.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 {{cite web|title=Highland Park Muslim Mosque|url=http://detroit1701.org/Highland%20Park%20Muslim%20Mosque.html|}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Five myths about mosques in America|url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/26/AR2010082605510.html|author=Edward E.
