释义 |
HistoryThe island was originally home to Native Americans.[1] It was settled by the Donelson family in the 1780s.[1] Later, it was acquired by Henry R.W. Hill, who ran a plantation with slave labor at this location.[1] By the 1880s, it was purchased by Ellen G. White.[3] The island was then used by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.[3] The island was donated by the Adventist Health System to the Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation in 2006.[1] As of 2015, the foundation planned to turn the island into an education opportunity for schoolchildren to experience the Tennessee wilderness.[1] The island is home to "deer, turkey, herons, raccoons, snakes, otters, and a bald eagle."[3] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 {{cite news|last1=Gonzalez|first1=Tony|title=Future charted for Hill's Island, a gem in the Cumberland|url=http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/environment/2015/02/13/new-vision-hills-island/23352959/|accessdate=February 11, 2016|work=The Tennessean|date=February 13, 2015}} {{coord|36.2519|-86.6666|type:isle_region:US-TN|format=dms|display=title}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Hill's Island}}{{DavidsonCountyTN-geo-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite news|last1=Gonzalez|first1=Tony|title=4 next steps for future of Hill's Island|url=http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/environment/2015/02/13/hills-island-future/23355201/|accessdate=February 11, 2016|work=The Tennessean|date=February 13, 2015}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Hill’s Island Executive Summary|url=https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/1661138/hills-island-executive-summary.pdf|accessdate=February 12, 2016}} 3 : Landforms of Davidson County, Tennessee|River islands of Tennessee|Cumberland River |
