It was built in 1866-1869 for Major John Hinde Hillsman, who served in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War of 1861-1865.[2] It was inherited by his son James Hillsman in the 1890s, and the property was turned into an alfalfa farm.[2] The house was designed in the Greek Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since March 25, 1982.[1] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Hillsman House}}{{Tennessee-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=82003955}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Hillsman House |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=July 20, 2018}} With {{NRHP url|id=82003955|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}} 4 : Houses on the National Register of Historic Places in Tennessee|National Register of Historic Places in Carroll County, Tennessee|Greek Revival architecture in Tennessee|Houses completed in 1869 |
