The tenth generation Honda Civic was released in November 2015 in the North American market, 2016 in Europe and Asia Pacific replacing the ninth generation Honda Civic.

Overview

The Civic is based on an all-new Honda compact global platform.^[4]

It utilizes higher grade steel, the unit body is {{convert|68|lb|kg|abbr=on}} lighter than the prior model and the center of gravity has been reduced {{convert|0.6|in|mm|abbr=on}}. The sedan's wheelbase is {{convert|1.2|in|mm|abbr=on}} longer with rear disc brakes made standard. To minimize NVH the Civic adds fluid-filled suspension bushings. A dual pinion steering system is introduced along with a thicker and more rigid {{convert|30|mm|in|abbr=on|order=flip}} diameter steering column for improved steering feel; additionally, the steering gear ratio is variable, with 2.2 turns lock-to-lock compared to 3.1 turns lock-to-lock from the previous model and a quicker 10.93:1 steering ratio.^[5]

The exterior features standard LED DRLs and C-shaped LED taillights. For the 1.5L turbo variant, it is distinguished by a different set of headlamps and a rear wing spoiler as standard in certain markets in Asia while for the U.S market, it can be distinguished by a rear decklid spoiler.{{clear left}}

Facelift (2019–)

The Civic's restyled design available as a 2019 model features Honda Sensing as standard and Sport Trim on Sedan and Coupe variants in the US market. Changes at the front features a black housing around the projector headlamps for the non turbo variant, restyled lower air splitter, piano black front grille, chrome/piano black accented foglamp trim and lower chrome trim/ black diffuser trim at the rear bumper. The interior is mostly unchanged except with the inclusion of volume knobs for the 7-inch touchscreen display and deeper twin cup holders in the centre console.

A new sport trim was added above the LX trim, adding rectangular centre exhaust, rear decklid spoiler and 18’’ alloy wheels. The facelift was first available in the US market on October 10, 2018.^[6][7]

Vehicle variants

Standard models

Sedan

The production sedan for North American market was unveiled at the YouTube Space LA on September 16, 2015. Models include a choice of two engines: a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter I4 engine paired to either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission, or 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injected I4 engine with only a CVT transmission. The sedan's 2.0-liter engine paired with the CVT has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined).^[8]

Coupe

The Civic Concept was unveiled in April at the 2015 New York Auto Show.^[9]

The production coupe was unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, sales began during March 2016.^[10]

Hatchback

The Civic Hatchback Prototype vehicle was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show; the production version was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.^[11] The hatchback is developed jointly by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan, and manufactured in its Swindon, England plant.^[12] US models went on sale in September 2016 (2017 MY).^[13]

Early US models only come with a 1.5-liter turbo engine of either {{Convert|174 or 180|hp|kW PS|0|abbr=on}} with a CVT. European models went on sale in Spring 2017. Early models included a choice of 3 engines (1.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo, 1.6-liter diesel all with CVT).^[14]

Performance models

Si

The Civic Si Prototype was unveiled in November 2016 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine available exclusively with a 6 speed manual. Performance options include active shock absorbers, active steering and a limited-slip differential.^[15]

Type R

The Type R Prototype was unveiled along with the production hatchback at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.^[11][16] The prototype shared the same overall body as the regular hatchback but with a more performance-focused appearance. The Type R Prototype included unique brushed aluminium-effect paintwork, 20-inch piano black alloy wheels, a carbon fibre front splitter and a large rear spoiler.^[17] In production form, the new Honda Civic Type R will use the same 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the previous version exclusively with 6 speed manual.^[18] It is also the first time a Civic Type R will be sold in the North American market.

Regions

Production of the sedan began at Honda of Canada Manufacturing on October 20, 2015 and shortly later at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana began on October 27. Civic Hatchbacks are produced at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM).

The 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo engines used in North American Civic are manufactured in Anna, Ohio. The vehicles' automatic transmissions (CVTs) are sourced from Honda plants in Russells Point, Ohio and Celaya, Mexico.

China

The tenth generation Civic was launched in China on April 14, 2016. The only engines available are the 1.0 litre turbocharged P10A1 and the 1.5 litre turbocharged L15B8 engine paired with 6 speed manual and CVT gearboxes. Trim levels for the Chinese market are known as the 180TURBO CVT, 180TURBO manual, 220TURBO CVT and 220TURBO manual and pricing is between 115,900 yuan and 169,900 yuan (17,140 to 25,120 USD).^[19]

Australia

Imported from Thailand, the launch of the current generation Civic sedan in Australia, sales of the Honda model shot up almost 50 percent.^[20] It has about 23 percent of private market share, matching performance of the best sellers in the segment.^[21][22] Honda does not compete in fleet or rental market.^[22] The biggest seller is the RS contributing to over 25 per cent of sales,^[22] while 60 percent of sales is made up of the turbocharged models in the line-up.^[23] The hatchback was launched in May 2017.^[23]

Japan

The Civic was revived for the Japanese Domestic Market in 2017, after a seven-year hiatus that entirely skipped the ninth generation.^[24] The tenth generation Civic line was revealed in Japan on July 27, 2017 and sales began there on September 29, 2017. It is available in both sedan and hatchback forms.^[25]

Thailand

Honda Automobile Thailand debuted the Civic on March 12, 2016.^[26] Choices include E, EL, Turbo and Turbo RS, a redeveloped 1.8-litre naturally aspirated with i-VTEC technology that produces {{convert|141|hp|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|174|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} of torque (E, EL) and the new 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO produces {{convert|173|hp|kW|abbr=on}} and {{convert|220|Nm|lbft|abbr=on}} of torque, achieved with the employment of turbocharger (Turbo, Turbo RS, Hatchback), and like the North American models, it does not come equipped with traditional i-VTEC (no lift change on camshaft profile) only valve timing adjusted. Both engines are mated to Earth-Dreams continuously variable transmission (CVT).^[27] The facelifted Civic debuted at the Thailand International Motor Expo on November 28, 2018, with Turbo RS variant equipped with Honda Sensing and sports a piano black front grill on the exterior.

Brunei Darussalam

Happy Motoring (Honda's sole distributor) unveiled the tenth generation Civic on August 26, 2016. It is offered with a reworked 1.6 L i-VTEC engine that produces {{Convert|125|PS|hp kW|abbr=on}} or a 1.5 L VTEC turbocharged engine that produces {{Convert|173|PS|hp kW|abbr=on}} coupled to a 7 simulated gears CVT with paddle shift are offered.^[28] As before, the Civic is offered with premium pricing of US$26,000 to US$35,000, and they continue to be imported from Thailand for to allow competitive pricing structures.

Indonesia

The tenth generation Civic sedan was launched on April 7, 2016 at the 24th Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta by Honda Prospect Motor. It uses the newer 1.5 L L15B7 I4 i-VTEC engine with a turbocharger. The hatchback was also launched on June 9, 2017, and uses the same engine as the sedan, and is available in S and E types with a CVT transmission only. The facelifted version of the sedan was launched on February 21, 2019.

Pakistan

Honda Atlas revealed the model for Pakistan on July 22, 2016. At the time of launch, three variants were offered, the: i-VTEC, i-VTEC Oriel and VTEC Turbo. i-VTEC and i-VTEC Oriel trims come with 1.8-liter engine with CVT while the VTEC Turbo has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a 7 speed CVT.

Malaysia

On June 9, 2016, the Civic was launched in Malaysia with only the sedan body style which was offered with three variants: 1.8L, 1.5L Turbo and 1.5L Turbo Premium.^[29]

Singapore

The Civic sedan was offered by the local dealership with a choice of a 1.6L or 1.5L turbo in July 2016, and facelifted in March 2019. For a limited period of time, the hatchback form was offered as well however in limited units from 2017 till 2018.^[30][31]

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom market introduced the Honda Civic to the UK market in 2017. It first arrived in the hatchback model, with the sedan model joining the lineup in 2018. ^[32]
