The station began operation in 1926. In 1968, the construction of current station began. The station is a manned station without an automatic ticket gate. Seasonal produce are available for sale just inside the ticket gate. LinesHongō Station is a station on the Nagano Electric Railway Nagano Line. It is 2.7 kilometers from the terminus of the line at Nagano Station and 30.5 kilometers from the other terminus at {{nihongo|Yudanaka Station|湯田中駅| Yudanaka-eki}}. Hongō Station is 1.1 kilometers from {{nihongo|Zenkōjishita Station|善光寺下駅 Zenkōjishita-eki}} below {{nihongo|Zenkō Temple|善光寺|Zenkō-ji]}}.
