BackgroundHoni Gordon sang as a member of the Gordons (with her father and two brothers) in the early 1950s.[2] Her first recordings, in 1953, were with them.[3] Recording and musicHoni Gordon Sings was recorded on March 23, 1962.[3] The other musicians on the recording are Makanda Ken McIntyre (alto sax, flute), Wally Richardson (guitar), Jaki Byard (piano), George Duvivier (bass), and Ed Shaughnessy (drums).[3]ReleasesThe album was originally released on LP by Prestige Records.[3] It was re-released on CD in 1992.[3] ReceptionThe AllMusic reviewer commented that the album presented "bop-based jazz singing at its best."[1] Gordon's version of "Strollin'" was described as "definitive".[1] Track listing
