It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.[1] It was a one-story Bungalow/craftsman-style house. It was built by contractor Charles H. Doenges, who built at least 17 houses in Thompson Falls.[2] Its first occupant was probably Irving E. Keith, bookkeeper for the Thompson Falls Mercantile Company. Keith sold the house in 1922 to E. L. Stackpole, the County Treasurer.[2] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2010a}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=86002777}}|title=Montana Historical and Architectural Inventory: House at 916 Preston Avenue / Smith Residence |publisher=National Park Service|author=John Lazuk |date=October 25, 1984 |accessdate=September 9, 2017}} With {{NRHP url|id=86002777|photos=y|title=photo from 1985}}.
