{{orphan|date=February 2019}}Hsiao-Jou Tang is an American contemporary dancer. Tang was born and raised in Taiwan, and in her childhood studied ballet, modern dance, traditional Chinese dance and martial arts.[1] and emigrated to the United States in 2004, where she attended SUNY Purchase, graduating in 2008 with a BFA in Dance.[2] Tang has been associated with Kyle Abraham of Abraham.in.motion, Shen Wei Dance Arts, Kevin Wynn Collection, Sidra Bell Dance NY, Daniel Charon Dance, Nora Petroliunas/The Pharmacy Project,[3] and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet. She is currently a member of Doug Varone Dancers, the median movement,[4] In 2018 Tang performed Netta Yerushalmy's 'Paramodernities' at Jacob's Pillow,[5][6] and in New York City.[7] Tang appeared as a dancer in the 2012 film Frances Ha,[8] where she was a dancer in the scene Deal One In.[9] Tang and her dance studio have been described as innovative and post-modern, with one dance hacing tang and her partner pluck at a cotton string with their teeth to produce sound.[10] Tang has also toured offering masterclasses as a dance instructor.[11]
