Milling was born at Carrickfergus and was educated at Marist College, Athlone, from there, he went up to Trinity College, Dublin.[1] While studying in Dublin, he played club cricket for Dublin University and Phoenix.[1] He made his debut for Ireland in a List A one-day game against Leicestershire at Leicester in the 1986 NatWest Trophy,[2] taking 4/63 on debut with his fast-medium bowling.[3] The following year he played in what would be his only match in first-class cricket, against Scotland at Coleraine.[4] Batting twice during the match, Milling was dismissed in Ireland's first-innings for 2 runs by James Govan, while in their second-innings he ended unbeaten on 4 runs. With his hostile fast-medium bowling,[1] he took six wickets in the match, claiming figures of 4/81 in Scotland's first-innings.[5] He made two further appearances in List A cricket, against Northamptonshire in the 1987 NatWest Trophy, and Gloucestershire in the 1988 NatWest Trophy.[2] He took a total of 9 wickets in his three List A matches, averaging 19.57 runs per wicket.[6] Having studied for a diploma in education at Ulster University, Milling moved into the teaching profession.[1] He taught for a while in Northern Ireland, before accepting a position with Hulme Grammar School in Oldham, England.[1] His move to England saw him play his club cricket in the Lancashire League with Werneth.[1] He accompanied the school on a visit to Austria in 2003, while skiing he fell and hit his head. Seemingly uninjured, he retired to his hotel room, but died that night in his sleep from a head injury that resulted from the fall.[1] References1. ^1 2 3 4 5 6 {{cite web|url=https://www.cricketeurope.com/IRELAND/PLAYERS/449/index.shtml |title=Player profile: Thomas Newburn |publisher=CricketEurope |accessdate=2018-10-22}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/26/26841/List_A_Matches.html |title=List A Matches played by Hugh Milling |publisher=CricketArchive |accessdate=2018-10-23}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/47/47439.html |title=Leicestershire v Ireland, 1986 NatWest Trophy |publisher=CricketArchive |accessdate=2018-10-23}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/48/48974.html |title=First-Class Matches played by Hugh Milling |publisher=CricketArchive |accessdate=2018-10-23}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/48/48974.html |title=Ireland v Scotland, 1987 |publisher=CricketArchive |accessdate=2018-10-23}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/26/26841/a_Bowling_by_Team.html |title=List A Bowling For Each Team by Hugh Milling |publisher=CricketArchive |accessdate=2018-10-23}} External links
