Hugo Rüter (1859–1949) was a German composer.

Born in Hamburg, he studied at the Conservatory of his hometown and later settled down in Wandsbeck as director of choral societies, being appointed in 1897 as a teacher of Mathias Claidius Gymnasium. He died in Mieste.

  • Kaiser-Ouverture, with the choir of men
  • Two operas: Frau Inge and Eulenspiegel
  • Incidental music for the tragedies Oedipus and Phytoctetes, and Sophocles
  • Seven symphonies
  • Violin concerto
  • Pieces for piano, including two sonatas
  • Lieder.
