Free agency- On August 6, 2005, Whitney signed a two-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL's Eastern Conference, paying him $1.5 million per year.
- During the free agent signing period following the end of the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Stillman agreed to a three-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes on August 2, 2005.
