Meetings are held monthly, except in some winter months, at the Niles Historical & Cultural Center.[4] Originally meetings were held at the Field Museum of Natural History, and later at North Park Village Nature Center, both in Chicago.[5] The meetings usually include a lecture from a professional mycologist or author and are free and open to the public. However, only members can attend the mushroom forays, or hunts, which are the best way to identify local fungi. These happen a couple times a month from the first foray for morels and other spring mushrooms at Kankakee River State Park in late April or early May,[5] until the September foray to gather displays for the Annual Mushroom Show.[6] The free public show is every year during Labor Day weekend at the Chicago Botanic Garden.[7][6][8] The monthly newsletter has been called Fungus Friends since 1993, but was published before then without a title.[9] The newsletter is where the details for the locations for the forays are listed. The IMA is a participant in the North American Mycoflora Project, which will identify and map the mycobiota of North America, representing the Chicago region.[10] References1. ^1 2 {{cite web|author1=|title=About Us|url=https://www.illinoismyco.org/about-us/|website=Illinois Mycological Association|publisher=Illinois Mycological Association|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=2018}} {{mycology-org-stub}}2. ^{{cite AV media |people= |date=14 March 2014 |title=Illinois Mycological Association PSA |medium= |language=English |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0T5gru9nvo |access-date=4 April 2018 |publisher=YouTube }} 3. ^{{cite web|author1=|title=NAMA Affiliated Clubs|url=https://www.namyco.org/clubs.php#I|website=North American Mycological Association|publisher=North American Mycological Association|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=2018}} 4. ^{{cite web|author1=|title=Featured Events|url=https://www.illinoismyco.org/events/|website=Illinois Mycological Association|publisher=Illinois Mycological Association|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=2018}} 5. ^{{cite web|last1=Sula|first1=Mike|title=Omnivorous: The 'Shroomer Who Shares|url=https://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/the-shroomer-who-shares/Content?oid=1109845|website=Chicago Reader|publisher=Chicago Reader|accessdate=4 April 2018|location=Chicago|language=English|date=1 May 2008}} 6. ^1 {{cite web|last1=Wiley|first1=Melissa|title=Meet The Mushroom: Forage With The Illinois Mycological Association|url=http://chicagoist.com/2014/09/04/meet_the_mushroom_forage_with_the_i.php|website=Chicagoist archives|publisher=WNYC|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=4 September 2014}} 7. ^{{cite web|author1=|title=Illinois Mycological Association Mushroom Show & Sale|url=https://www.chicagobotanic.org/calendar/event/illinois_mycological_association_mushroom_show_sale|website=Chicago Botanic Garden|accessdate=4 April 2018|location=Glencoe, IL|language=English|date=2018}} 8. ^{{cite web|last1=O'Connor|first1=Rod|last2=Hewet|first2=Lucy|title=Do You Know the Mushroom Man?|url=http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/April-2017/Mushrooms-Patrick-Leacock/|website=Chicago magazine|publisher=Chicago Tribune Media Group|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|oclc=25489576|date=3 April 2017|issn=0362-4595}} 9. ^1 2 {{cite web|last1=Schutte|first1=Eileen|title=The History of the Illinois Mycological Association|url=https://www.illinoismyco.org/history-of-ima/|website=Illinois Mycological Association|publisher=Illinois Mycological Association|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=2010}} 10. ^{{cite web|author1=|title=Participants|url=http://mycoflora.org/people/participants|website=North American Mycoflora Project|publisher=North American Mycoflora Project|accessdate=4 April 2018|language=English|date=2017|quote=Mycoflora of Chicago Region Project Lead: Patrick Leacock Sponsored by: Illinois Mycological Association Region: Cook County, IL and adjacent counties}} 3 : Mycology organizations|Science and technology in Illinois|Organizations based in Illinois |
