HistoryThe museum was founded in 1991 as the Children's Museum of Snohomish County, as part of a countywide initiative to establish children-oriented places in Snohomish County by the county government's Children's Commission. It opened in 1993 at a storefront in nearby Marysville,[1] but was forced to move to a temporary space in downtown Everett in 1995.[2] The county government planned to locate the museum permanently at McCollum County Park in Mill Creek, but plans fell through during the late 1990s, leading to a donation by the Schack family to fund a permanent museum in downtown Everett.[3] The new $4.75 million museum, a former Everett Mutual Bank branch with {{convert|20,000|sqft|sqm}} of space, opened on October 17, 2004, and was renamed the Imagine Children's Museum.[4][5][6] In its first year at the expanded location, the museum reported an attendance of 146,000, more than quadruple its annual attendance at its temporary locations.[7] Exhibits and programsThe Imagine Children's Museum is designed as an activity center for children between the ages of one and twelve years, with over 20 exhibits.[8] Some of the exhibits are reflective of life in Snohomish County, including a child-sized airplane cockpit, a bus donated by Everett Transit, and a theater stage.[9] The museum's rooftop was converted into an outdoor playground in 2005, including a two-story wooden tower, climbing wall and other play areas.[7] References1. ^{{cite news |last=Brooks |first=Diane |date=September 23, 1993 |title=Children's place: years of dedicated effort pay off as kids' museum finds a home |page=1 |work=The Seattle Times}} 2. ^{{cite news |last=Ochoa |first=Rachel |date=October 6, 1995 |title=Children's museum to reopen in Everett |page=B3 |url=http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=19951006&slug=2145414 |work=The Seattle Times |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} 3. ^{{cite news |last=de Leon |first=John |date=December 8, 2000 |title=Museum finally gets a home |page=B5 |work=The Seattle Times}} 4. ^{{cite news |last=Dunnewind |first=Stephanie |date=October 16, 2004 |title=Exploring children's museums: They educate and stimulate; they're expanding, and more are opening |page=C1 |url=http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20041016&slug=childmuseum16 |work=The Seattle Times |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news |last=Lloyd |first=Jennifer |date=August 1, 2004 |title=Museum closes, new one to open: Everett facility for kids is moving |page=B2 |work=The Seattle Times}} 6. ^{{cite news |last=Tuinstra |first=Rachel |date=October 13, 2004 |title=Child's play: Imagine, a kids museum |page=H20 |url=http://old.seattletimes.com/html/snohomishcountynews/2002060809_museum13n.html |work=The Seattle Times |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} 7. ^1 {{cite news |last=Dunnewind |first=Stephanie |date=October 8, 2005 |title="Awesome" addition to Imagine Children's Museum |page=C1 |url=http://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/awesome-addition-to-imagine-childrens-museum/ |work=The Seattle Times |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} 8. ^{{cite news |last=Goffredo |first=Theresa |date=October 7, 2012 |title=Imagine Children's Museum adds new exhibits |url=http://www.heraldnet.com/life/imagine-children%C2%92s-museum-adds-new-exhibits/ |work=The Everett Herald |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} 9. ^{{cite news |last=Yefimova |first=Katya |date=March 16, 2010 |title=Imagine Children's Museum welcomes its millionth visitor |url=http://www.heraldnet.com/news/imagine-childrens-museum-welcomes-its-millionth-visitor/ |work=The Everett Herald |accessdate=April 7, 2017}} External links
