The Independence Avalon is a German single-place, paraglider that was designed by Michaël Nesler and produced by Independence Paragliding of Eisenberg, Thuringia. It is now out of production.[1]

Design and development

The Avalon was designed as a beginner glider. The models are each named for their relative size.[1]

Company test pilot Christian Amon was also involved in the development as well as flight testing of the Avalon.[1]

Variants

Avalon S

Small-sized model for lighter pilots. Its {{convert|11.8|m|ft|1|abbr=on}} span wing has a wing area of {{convert|27.1|m2|sqft|abbr=on}}, 40 cells and the aspect ratio is 5.1:1. The pilot weight range is {{convert|65|to|85|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}}. The glider model is DHV 1 certified.[1]

Avalon M

Avalon L

Large-sized model for heavier pilots. Its {{convert|12.8|m|ft|1|abbr=on}} span wing has a wing area of {{convert|32.1|m2|sqft|abbr=on}}, 40 cells and the aspect ratio is 5.1:1. The pilot weight range is {{convert|95|to|120|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}}. The glider model is DHV 1 certified.[1]

Avalon XL

Extra large-sized model for much heavier pilots. Its {{convert|13.2|m|ft|1|abbr=on}} span wing has a wing area of {{convert|34.0|m2|sqft|abbr=on}}, 40 cells and the aspect ratio is 5.1:1. The pilot weight range is {{convert|110|to|140|kg|lb|0|abbr=on}}. The glider model is DHV 1 certified.[1]
