TowerThere are two currently working churches in the town of Innishannon, one Catholic and one Church of Ireland. Beside the River Bandon is the abandoned St. Mary's church and graveyard, probably initially Cistercian, which has been both throughout its history. It became a Church of Ireland building in the 16th century and was in use until the new church was completed in the mid 19th century.[1][2][3][4] The original handover of the land was by the Church of Ireland to Cork County Council. There was a serious collapse of the tower in 2007. The locals campaigned to have the tower restored.[5][6] St Mary's Church tower was officially handed over by Cork County Council to the care of the local Tidy Towns committee on 21 November 2013.[5][6] References1. ^{{cite book|author=Alice Taylor|title=The Parish|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=0ZiCBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT77|date=1 September 2014|publisher=O'Brien Press|isbn=978-1-84717-593-9|pages=77–}} 2. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.linehanconstruction.com/projects/conservation/restoration-tower-county-cork |title=Linehan Construction - Listed Buildings Conservation, Innishannon church tower |newspaper=Linehanconstruction.com |date= |author= |accessdate= October 23, 2016}} 3. ^{{cite book|author=Alice Taylor|title=The Village|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=95iCBAAAQBAJ&pg=PT21|date=1 September 2014|publisher=O'Brien Press|isbn=978-1-84717-595-3|pages=21–}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://explorewestcork.ie/villages/innishannon/ |title=Innishannon - Explore West Cork |newspaper=Explorewestcork.ie |date= |author= |accessdate= October 23, 2016}} 5. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.southernstar.ie/News/Historic-hand-over-of-tower-and-cemetery-in-Innishannon-02122013.htm |title=Historic hand over of tower and cemetery in Innishannon |newspaper=Southernstar.ie |date= |author= |accessdate= October 23, 2016}} 6. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.irishexaminer.com/viewpoints/yourview/historic-village-tower-should-pass-to-the-people-121113.html |title=Historic village tower should pass to the people |newspaper=Irishexaminer.com |date= |author= |accessdate= October 23, 2016}} 3 : National Monuments in County Cork|Religion in County Cork|Towers in the Republic of Ireland |
