It is native to east Asia, where it is found in China, Japan, and Korea.[2] It is a common and widespread species in Japan.[3] Its natural habitat is on open mountain slopes, often is rocky areas with shallow soil. However, it is also found in disturbed areas such as cultivated fields and abandoned ground.[3][2][4] It has naturalized locally in the northeastern United States.[5][6] Ixeris stolonifera is a low, stoloniferous perennial, with flowering scapes growing to approximately {{cvt|15|cm}} tall. It produces yellow heads of flowers in spring.[3] It can be confused with the similar-looking Ixeris japonica, but I. stolonifera is distinguished by its smaller inflorescences, smaller fruits, and more ovate-orbicular leaves.[4][7]References1. ^{{PLANTS|id=IXST|taxon=Ixeris stolonifera|accessdate=4 November 2018}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q5710097}}2. ^1 Ixeris stolonifera Flora of China 3. ^1 2 {{cite book |last=Ohwi |first=Jisaburo |date=1965 |title=Flora of Japan |url= |location= |publisher=Smithsonian Institution |page=927|isbn= |author-link= }} 4. ^1 Ixeris stolonifera (in Japanese), Okayama University Plant Ecology Laboratory 5. ^Ixeris stolonifera Flora of North America 6. ^{{BONAP|ref|genus=Ixeris |species=stolonifera|accessdate=4 November 2018}} 7. ^Ixeris stolonifera (in Japanese), Flora of Mikawa 1 : Cichorieae |
