}}Jakob Ingebrigtsen (born 19 September 2000) is a Norwegian middle-distance runner. He won two gold medals at the 2018 European Championships, in the 1500 and 5000 metres events. His older brothers Henrik and Filip are also middle-distance runners who compete internationally. They are trained by their father Gjert Ingebrigtsen.[2]

Career

He won the gold medal in the juniors' event at the 2016 European Cross Country Championships in Chia, Italy.[3]

On 27 May 2017 he became the youngest athlete to run the one-mile distance in less than 4 minutes, when he finished in 11th place in a Diamond League race at Hayward Field in Eugene, USA.[4]

On 15 June he ran almost two seconds faster, when he finished first in a mile race at Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway with the time 3:56.29.[5]

On 8 July 2017 he beat the junior European record on 3000 metres steeplechase at the Guldensporenmeeting in Kortrijk, Belgium with the time 8:26.81. This was his first time competing in the 3000 m steeplechase event.

On 26 May 2018 at age 17, Ingebrigtsen ran a 3:52.28 mile in the Prefontaine Classic's Bowerman Mile for 4th place. This mark was the second-fastest mile run by a seventeen-year-old of all time, behind only that of Hamza Driouch - later banned from the sport for performance-enhancing drugs use).[6]

On August 10, 2018, Jakob won a Gold Medal at the 2018 European Championships in Berlin in the 1500 metres race, ahead of his brothers in fourth and 12th, becoming the youngest ever European champion.[7] He added a second gold medal a day later, in the 5000 metres event, with his brother Henrik finishing second.[8]
