James Michael Weir (born 4 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Championship club Hull City. He began his career at Preston North End before moving to Manchester United as a youngster. He was sold to Hull at the start of the 2016–17 season, before spending the second half of that season on loan to Wigan Athletic.

Club career

Manchester United

Born in Preston, Lancashire, he began his career with local club Preston North End before joining the Manchester United academy in 2011. He made his professional debut on 28 February 2016 in a 3–2 Premier League win at home to Arsenal, coming on as an injury-time substitute for Ander Herrera.[2] He has also represented England at under-16 and under-18 level.

Hull City

On 31 August 2016, Weir signed a three-year contract with Premier League club Hull City.[3] He made his debut on 21 September 2016 in the League Cup in a 2–1 away win against Stoke City.[4]

On 31 January 2017, he joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the 2016–17 season.[5] Three days later, he made his debut for the club coming on as a substitute in the 67th minute against Sheffield Wednesday.[6]

He made his league debut for Hull City on the opening day of the 2017–18 season, 5 August 2017, away at Aston Villa, in a 1–1 draw.[7]
