She received her PhD in particle physics from the University of Oxford in 1983 for research on semi-leptonic decays of heavy quarks supervised by Michael G. Bowler.[2][3] Career and researchThomas held a postdoctoral research positions at Imperial College and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg from 1985 to 1985. She was a CERN fellow from 1985 to 1989 and worked there on the Time Projection Digitizer (TPC) for the ALEPH experiment. She was a Wissenschaflicher Angestellter at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich from 1989 to 1991. She then became a staff scientist at the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory in Dallas, Texas. In 1994, she returned to Oxford as a research officer on the MINOS proposed experiment. She brought that experiment to University College London in 1997.[3] {{As of|2017}} her work investigates on the physics of neutrinos, she is the co-spokesperson for the MINOS experiment and is a member of the NEMO-III and SuperNEMO experiments.[4][5] Awards and honoursThomas was awarded a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the 2011 Birthday Honours.[6] She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2017.[7] She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the American Physical Society.[3] She was the winner of the 2018 Institute of Physics Michael Faraday medal and prize.[8] References1. ^{{cite web|url=https://inspirehep.net/author/profile/J.A.Thomas.1|title=Jennifer Anne Thomas profile|publisher=INSPIRE-HEP}} {{FRS 2017}}{{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Thomas, Jennifer Anne}}{{UK-physicist-stub}}2. ^1 {{cite thesis|degree=DPhil|publisher=University of Oxford|title=A study of semi-leptonic decays of heavy quarks|first= Jennifer Anne|last=Thomas|year=1983|url=http://solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/OXVU1:LSCOP_OX:oxfaleph012146257|oclc=53514253}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|title=Prof Jennifer Thomas|url=https://iris.ucl.ac.uk/iris/browse/profile?upi=JATHO74|publisher=University College London|accessdate=2017-05-13|first=Jennifer|last=Thomas|year=2017}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://cerncourier.com/cws/article/cern/46879/3|work=CERN Courier|publisher=cerncourier.com|title=Faces and Places: The Queen honours services to science |year=2011}} 5. ^{{cite journal|collaboration=NEMO-3 Collaboration|last1=Arnold |first1=R. |last2=Augier |first2=C. |last3=Baker |first3=J.|last4=Barabash |first4=A.
