Walters, Jr. (born December 26, 1938) is a former justice of the Idaho Supreme Court, a member from 1997 to 2003. Born in Rexburg, Idaho, Walters graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1957, then attended Ricks College in Rexburg for a year. He transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow, where received his bachelor's degree and a J.D. from its College of Law in 1963. He passed the bar in Idaho that year and clerked at the Idaho Supreme Court for a year, then entered private practice. In 1977, Walters was appointed a state judge in the fourth district (Boise) by Governor John Evans and was the first chief judge of the Idaho Court of Appeals, which began in 1982.[1][2] Fifteen years later, he was appointed by Governor Phil Batt in 1997 to fill the vacancy of the retiring Charles McDevitt on the state supreme court.[3] Walters was unopposed in 1998[4] and retired in 2003, succeeded by Roger Burdick.[5] References1. ^{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=lUJYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=V_kDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1237%2C4181403 |newspaper=Spokane Daily Chronicle |location=Washington |agency=UPI |title=Appeals court gets chief |date=September 30, 1981 |page=3 }} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Walters, Jesse}}{{US-law-bio-stub}}2. ^{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Nc9eAAAAIBAJ&sjid=8DIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2349%2C1514680 |newspaper=Lewiston Morning Tribune |agency=Associated Press |last=Kenyon |first=Quane |title=Jesse Walters appointed to Supreme Court by governor |date=June 20, 1997 |page=1C }} 3. ^{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Gk8tAAAAIBAJ&sjid=utAFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3552%2C1099439 |newspaper=Moscow-Pullman Daily News |location=Idaho-Washington |title=Batt names Walters to Supreme Court |date=June 20, 1997 |page=4A}} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.sos.idaho.gov/ELECT/results/1998/primary/98prrslt.htm |publisher=State of Idaho |title=Primary election results |date=May 26, 1998 |accessdate=August 31, 2015}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=a9dYAAAAIBAJ&sjid=uvIDAAAAIBAJ&pg=1816%2C5229464 |newspaper=Spokesman-Review |location=Spokane, Washington |last=Fick |first=Bob |agency=Associated Press |title=Kempthorne appoints Burdick to Supreme Court |date=June 27, 2003 |page=B1 }} 7 : Idaho Supreme Court justices|University of Idaho alumni|People from Rexburg, Idaho|People from Idaho Falls, Idaho|Living people|1938 births|University of Idaho College of Law alumni |
