It is served by line 1, line 2 and line 7. The station was opened on 8 October 1988, when Metrovalencia was created. On 3 July 2006, a serious crash, which killed 43 people, occurred between the station and Plaça d'Espanya station.[1] On 12 December 2010, the station was renamed Joaquín Sorolla, after the painter and to reflect its proximity to the high speed train station Joaquín Sorolla[1] which opened a week after the name change.[2] The name change was opposed by opposition political parties and residents groups, who considered it an attempt to forget the tragedy.[2] Groups representing victims of the crash also criticised the name change, pointing out that the Joaquín Sorolla name would be more appropriate for the 2 metro stations, Bailén and Xàtiva, which were closer to the high-speed station.[3] They requested that the name be altered to Jesús-Joaquín Sorolla.[3] In February 2012, Valencia city council unanimously adopted their suggestion, changing the name to Joaquín Sorolla-Jesús.[2] On 30 June 2016, the station reverted to its original name to mark the tenth anniversary of the metro accident.[4] References1. ^1 {{cite news |last= |first= |date=11 December 2010 |title=La 'estación de la muerte' del metro pierde su nombre |trans-title=The "station of death" loses its name|url=http://elpais.com/diario/2010/12/11/cvalenciana/1292098688_850215.html |language=Spanish |newspaper=El País |location= |access-date=14 September 2016}} 2. ^1 2 {{cite news |last= |first= |date=27 February 2012|title=La estación de Jesús recupera su nombre... a medias|trans-title=Jesús station recovers half its name|url=http://www.levante-emv.com/comunitat-valenciana/2012/02/27/estacion-jesus-recupera-nombre-medias/885074.html|language=Spanish |newspaper=Levante EMV |location=Valencia, Spain |access-date=14 September 2016}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |last= |first= |date=27 February 2012|title=Las víctimas del accidente de metro critican el cambio de nombre de la estación 'Jesús'|trans-title=The victims of the metro accident criticise the renaming of Jesús station|url=http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2010/12/16/valencia/1292515737.html|language=Spanish |newspaper=El Mundo |location=Valencia, Spain |access-date=14 September 2016}} 4. ^{{cite news |last= |first= |date=27 February 2012|title=Trabajadores de FGV cambian los carteles en la estación de Jesús|trans-title=Valencia railway workers change the signs in Jesús station|url=http://www.lasprovincias.es/valencia-ciudad/201606/30/trabajadores-cambian-carteles-estacion-20160630132944.html|language=Spanish |newspaper=Las Provincias|location=Valencia, Spain |access-date=14 September 2016}} External links{{DEFAULTSORT:Bailen (Metrovalencia)}}{{Europe-metro-stub}}{{Spain-railstation-stub}} 1 : Metrovalencia stations |
