CareerEarly (2003–2016)Joe began playing guitar at age seven, and was performing around Michigan by the time he turned nine. Jenneman was a member of several bands throughout high school including Breaking Habit (2011–2012), Fulton (2012–2013), and Benefit of the Doubt (2012–2015), who he won the Grand Rapids Battle of The Bands with in 2014. American Guilt (2017)Jenneman's American Guilt EP features heavier concepts, including dissatisfaction with society displayed in the title track. A lighter spot of the project, "Georgia", was inspired by his stay in the state during the summer of 2016, at which point he was working for his uncle selling cars.[4] "Your Name", "The Same", and "Bloom" (2018)In the fall of 2017, Joe relocated to Los Angeles, California. Soon after his arrival, he teamed up with Grammy Nominated producer Erik Kertes (Shakira, Michael Buble) to record his single "Your Name",[4] which was released on New Year's Day of 2018. Later that year, Jenneman released a lyric-driven single entitled "The Same".[5][6] Both "Your Name" and "The Same" were released with music videos directed by Brendan Eadicicco.[7] Jenneman's third and final release in 2018 was titled "Bloom". He used a very minimalistic approach when he went into the studio for this track, wanting the story of the song to be easily accessible.[3][8] Featuring vocal harmonies from Lisa Heller, "Bloom" received positive reviews.[1][9] InfluencesJoe lists classic rock artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, and Bruce Springsteen as sounds that molded his own. He also mentions often the impact blues has had on his musical development, most notably Skip James, Son House, and Robert Johnson.[10] More contemporary influences which Jenneman has listed include James Bay, Allen Stone, Harry Styles, Leon Bridges, Amy Winehouse, and Mac Miller, who he met outside of a Los Angeles bar shortly before the rapper's death in September 2018.
