释义

  1. References

John Hauck (August 20, 1829 Munich, Bavaria - June 4, 1896 Newport, Kentucky) was the owner of the Cincinnati Red Stockings baseball team in the mid 1880s, taking over the team from George Herancourt.

John Hauck came to the United States at the age of 22, and worked for his uncle, Cincinnati brewer George M. Herancourt. In 1863 Hauck formed his own beer brewery, John Hauck Brewing Company, in Cincinnati's west end, and soon became wealthy. Hauck was also president of the city's German National Bank.[1]

In 1885 Hauck's cousin, Reds owner George L. Herancourt, went bankrupt, and Hauck took over as principal owner of the team. He delegated to his son, Louis, the day-to-day management of the club. He is buried in Cincinnati's Spring Grove Cemetery.[2] The Hauck Mansion is today one of the city's landmarks.
